Gromatic

What is it?

Over the past $datetime years working in IT infrastructure, I've collected a number of little hacks and tricks. This little blog is an attempt to share some of them with the wider world with the hope that they will be as useful to you as they have been to me.

Why the name?

In ancient Roman times, the Gromatici were employed as surveyors of the land, a critical skill in the times of invasion and conquest. Their techniques were recorded by technical writers, often referred to as the Gromatic writers. The 'Groma' was an instrument used by the surveyors to line up distant beacons between towns, in order to find the straightest path between them. It consisted of a horizontal cross, with a plumb bob hanging from each tip - like the strings of a marionette.
